"I do not doubt that Reconnecting with Emily was definitely Supernatural. The light and positivity she has brought into the hardest time in my life has been such a gift. It is not surprising, yet so fascinating the similarities in our paths of life. I had been doing a scriptural study on the word cloak. I was intrigued by the extremely high value and meaning placed on ones cloak over thousand of years. Knowing Emily was weaving my story and her prayers into a cloak for and over me has been a great blessing. The cloak she created for me is a stunning and powerful work of art."
— Betsy
My long lost childhood friend, Betsy, and I reconnected inside of the pandemic of 2020. We had fallen out of touch in high school. She and I were “kindred spirits” as we used to say. It has been so lovely to get to know her again and find that we remained very close in spirit. After all these years, we are still drawn to the same textiles around the world. Shortly after we were in contact again, she was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer. I was moved by her journey and created a Story Medicine cloak for her. She sent me textile pieces from her travels around the world helping women that had been trafficked. Betsy is part of the team that helps these women in transition to find ways to support themselves and create a life for themselves and their children. She is also a mother to 6 children. At the time of writing this, Betsy is healing from removal of part of her liver. To say she is an angel walking on earth resonates as truth to me. May she find peace in all ways & may all beings know peace.
Cloak Contents
This cloak was made from pieces of Betsy’s textiles she collected on her mission work around the world. The countries visited in this cloak, include Turkey, Uzbekistan, Haiti, Thailand and the United States. The shell is made from a heavy linen cotton blend and is the same fabric I used for my personal wedding capes. It is lined with locally milled organic cotton fleece. The lines were created with handmade vintage sparkle and tulle trim. There is an eye that came from another sewing session that was dedicated to my daughter and my sister in law & cousin. I also wove in some lace from my Grandmother’s collection, as Betsy and I spent much time as children with my Gram.
